A Legendary Day to Celebrate Vinyl
Record Store Day at Real Vinyl Guru is a celebration of vinyl culture, community, and African sound. Each April, music lovers gather in Kenyatta Market to dig through rare grooves, connect over analog warmth, and rediscover sonic treasures from Kenya and beyond.
The event features exclusive Record Store Day releases, live DJ sets, and curated collections from James Rugami’s decades of crate-digging across the continent. It’s a vibrant, music-filled day where stories are shared, old records find new homes, and vinyl lives on.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or curious newcomer, Record Store Day at Real Vinyl Guru invites you to be part of a movement that honors the past while shaping the future of African music culture.

We bring vinyl culture beyond our Kenyatta Market stall to pop‑up shops and festivals across Nairobi. Partnering with Nairobi Soul Club and Crate Society, we host events featuring DJs, artists, and curated record displays where rare benga, jazz, Afro‑soul, and rumba records pulse through public venues.
Led by James Rugami, these pop‑ups have attracted visitors from over 17 countries, creating lively occasions where music lovers gather to dig crates, hear special sets, and celebrate Africa’s vinyl heritage.
